Third Grade PBL

Third graders have been very busy researching best practice, creating lesson plans, and figuring out schedules so that we can begin helping young readers at MES. #thirdgradePBL2014

It was "Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character" day at MES!  Mrs. Diefenbaugh, Mrs. Schmidt and I enjoyed being the Three Little Pigs for the day!

Today we kicked off our PBL activity in third grade.  Students generated a list of things that they need to find out in order to answer our driving question: How can we help struggling readers at MES improve their reading skills?  The photo above shows what these third grade students want to find out!

Singer/songwriter James Hersch visited our classroom on Friday afternoon.  Third grade students  have been studying figurative language all week.  As a final activity for this unit of study, students helped compose a song using the skills they've learned.  They did a great job while getting a glimpse of the ins and outs of writing and publishing music.  A huge shout out to James Hersch and Manchester University for arranging this awesome activity!

Second Grade Students' Favorite Moments in Mrs. Rosen's Classroom!
Students who receive math services enjoyed dissecting cow eyes in class last week.  We want to give a huge shout out to parent volunteer, Ashleigh Maxcey, for providing both the cow eyes and the experience!  What a great opportunity this was for my classes!!

Third grade math students recently created their own games in our classroom.  Students did a great job of designing and then explaining the games to their classmates.  After playing each of the games, our class voted and I've posted the top two games.  Check them out!

Students at MES are so excited about our new school reading initiative! Each day students from different classrooms have been making morning announcements about what they are reading now.  Check out the following announcement made by one of our first graders just this morning!

What Are YOU Reading Now?!

Thursday, April 24, 2014

We are so excited about our school Reading Initiative!  We have been reading books  and writing all kinds of book reviews.  We hope you enjoy listening to our reviews.  We also hope that these reviews motivate you to pick up one of these books.  What are YOU reading now?!

Well, if you're reading this post that means Tucker is still sick or someone else in my family has become a victim of the stomach bug:(
I hope you are all doing well.  I miss all of you! If you have time you can write me.  You can tell me about a time when you were sick, or a fun experience that might cheer me up, or you can just write what ever is on your mind.  I would love to hear from you all!

I love to laugh.  This is one of those moments in life that I laughed so hard I cried.  Have you ever had a moment like that?  If so, tell me all about it!

One of the things I love most about my job this year is that I am learning along with my students.  Believe it or not, this is my very first classroom blog! Though I'm a little nervous about blogging, I can't wait to get started! I hope that I can use this blog to inspire students and show case their work.
